Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 - Flight to Costa Rica
Board your flight to Liberia, on the west coast of Costa Rica. Upon arrival meet your local Program Director and transfer to your hotel. This afternoon, visit and relax in the local volcanic hot springs, which are naturally heated by the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano — the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Tonight, join your welcome dinner!

Day 2 - Rincon de la Vieja
This morning, take a horseback ride to the Oropendola Waterfall. The falls cascade into a stunning blue pool in the canyon of the Blanco River, creating an incredible tropical oasis. This afternoon, take a hike in Rincón de la Vieja National Park, the rare ecosystems here provide homes to a number of endangered or rare plant and animal species that inhabit this region.

The Sloth

These adorable, slow moving creatures sleep 8-10 hours a day and most often will be spotted hanging out in the trees of tropical forests in Central and South America. But did you know they are really great swimmers? They are faster in the water than on land and can stay under water for 40 minutes!

Day 3 - Rincon de la Vieja
Today, it’s all about team building, working together and having fun! Start the day river tubing, along the way, there will be plenty of quiet pools to take a swim and appreciate the beautiful tropical scenery along the banks of the river. Later this afternoon, see the forest from a different perspective as you fly through the forest canopy on the zip line course.

Day 4 - San Carlos
This morning start your travels to San Carlos, along the way, meet with students from a local school and spend the afternoon getting to know your peers and learning what life is like for teens in Costa Rica. Later today, visit Arenal Volcano National Park, and get a closer look at the active volcano. You’ll also see La Fortuna Waterfall, a breathtaking waterfall that drops almost 250 feet. Tonight, visit an organic farm, where you will learn to make your own traditional costa rican dinner.

Did You Know?

Arenal Volcano is around 3,000 years old, and it is considered to be one of the world’s most perfect conical-shaped volcanos.

Day 5 - San Carlos
Today, take a boat ride on the Rio Frio to the world famous Caño Negro wildlife refuge, home to many migratory birds found nowhere else in Costa Rica. Look for black turtles, whistling ducks, roseate spoonbills, cormorants, anhingas, blue heron, and northern jacanas. Watch for caimans, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, green iguanas, and water-walking lizards. Later, visit an orphanage, where you’ll spend valuable time playing with and teaching English to the children. We recommend bringing some school supplies or toys to donate to the children.

Day 6 - San José
This morning, visit Sarchi, an artisian town that is well know for it’s colorful and vibrant oxcarts that are handcrafted here. Later, meet with some local artisians, and shop the colorful marketplace. Later, continue on to San José for your farewell dinner and overnight.
