Day 1: Departure Day
Your Spanish adventure begins! Head to the airport and board your overnight flight to Spain. As you cross the Atlantic, get ready to experience centuries of history, vibrant culture, incredible cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes. Over the next ten days, you’ll explore ancient palaces, wander through historic cities, learn traditional cooking techniques, discover the influence of multiple civilizations, and even travel to a second continent during a day trip to Morocco.
Day 2: Arrival in Seville & Evening at the Feria
¡Bienvenidos a España! Upon arrival in Seville, the capital of Andalusia, meet your Program Director and transfer to your hotel. After settling in, head out to experience the excitement of Seville’s famous Feria. One of Spain’s most beloved cultural celebrations, the Feria transforms an entire section of the city into a colorful festival filled with music, dancing, traditional food, colorful lights, horse-drawn carriages, and beautifully decorated gathering tents known as casetas. Throughout the evening, you’ll see locals dressed in traditional Andalusian attire, hear the sounds of flamenco-inspired music, and experience a celebration that has been an important part of Seville’s culture for generations. Enjoy your first Spanish dinner while taking in the festive atmosphere and vibrant energy of this uniquely Spanish tradition.
Day 3: Exploring Historic Seville
Today, discover why Seville is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful and historic cities. Begin with a guided tour of the magnificent Royal Alcázar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning Mudéjar architecture, ornate courtyards, intricate tilework, and lush gardens. Originally built by Muslim rulers and later expanded by Christian monarchs, the palace reflects the diverse cultures that have shaped Spain throughout its history. Continue to the Seville Cathedral, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world and the final resting place of Christopher Columbus. Climb the iconic Giralda Tower for panoramic views of the city before enjoying time to explore Seville’s charming plazas, narrow streets, and vibrant neighborhoods. This evening, return to the Feria for another opportunity to experience this incredible celebration. Wander through the illuminated fairgrounds, sample local specialties, watch traditional Sevillanas dancing, and see firsthand how this annual festival brings together people from across the region to celebrate Andalusian culture, community, and tradition.
Day 4: Kayaking on the Guadalquivir & Paella Cooking Experience
Begin the day with a kayaking adventure on the Guadalquivir River, the historic waterway that helped establish Seville as one of the most important ports during Spain’s Age of Exploration. As you paddle along the river, enjoy unique views of the city’s landmarks and waterfront while learning about Seville’s role in global trade and exploration. Later, participate in a hands-on paella cooking workshop where local chefs will introduce you to one of Spain’s most iconic culinary traditions. Learn about regional ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and the importance of sharing meals in Spanish culture before enjoying the delicious dinner you helped prepare alongside your fellow travelers.
Day 5: Córdoba & Granada
Travel through the heart of Andalusia toward Granada, stopping along the way in the historic city of Córdoba. Here you’ll visit the remarkable Mezquita, one of the most extraordinary architectural landmarks in Europe. Originally built as a grand mosque during Moorish rule and later transformed into a cathedral, the Mezquita reflects centuries of cultural exchange and showcases the unique blend of Islamic and Christian influences that shaped southern Spain. Wander through Córdoba’s charming historic center, lined with narrow streets, flower-filled courtyards, and beautiful plazas, before continuing to Granada. Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Granada is known for its rich history, vibrant atmosphere, and lasting legacy as the final stronghold of Muslim rule in Spain.
After checking into your hotel and enjoying some time to settle in, soccer fans may have the opportunity to attend a local football match this evening (schedule permitting* with an additional cost for tickets). Football is an important part of daily life and culture throughout Spain, and attending a match offers a unique opportunity to experience the passion and excitement that surround the sport. Whether cheering alongside local supporters, taking in the atmosphere of the stadium, or witnessing matchday traditions firsthand, this optional evening activity can provide a memorable glimpse into Spanish culture and community life.
*Soccer Match: Depending on local schedules and ticket availability, we hope to include an opportunity to attend a football match during the program. While the exact date cannot be confirmed at this time, we will work to identify a game that fits our itinerary and may adjust the timing of activities to make this experience possible.
Day 6: The Alhambra & Flamenco Evening
Today, explore one of Spain’s most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks: the Alhambra. Overlooking the city of Granada, this magnificent palace and fortress complex served as the seat of the Nasrid rulers and remains one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture in the world. As you wander through its elegant courtyards, intricate halls, reflective pools, and beautifully landscaped gardens, you’ll gain insight into the artistic, scientific, and cultural achievements of medieval Andalusia. This evening, experience another cherished Andalusian tradition through an interactive flamenco experience. After learning about the history and cultural significance of flamenco, you’ll have the opportunity to learn some of the dance steps, try the rhythms and movements yourself, and join in the action alongside local performers. Through its powerful music, expressive dancing, and rich storytelling traditions, flamenco offers a unique window into the spirit of southern Spain. Enjoy a traditional dinner while taking part in this memorable and uniquely Andalusian cultural experience.
Day 7: Ronda & the Costa del Sol
Depart Granada and travel toward Spain’s beautiful Mediterranean coastline. Along the way, stop in the dramatic mountaintop town of Ronda, one of Andalusia’s most picturesque destinations. Perched above a deep gorge carved by the Guadalevín River, Ronda is famous for its breathtaking views, historic architecture, and iconic Puente Nuevo bridge. Explore the town’s charming streets and scenic viewpoints while learning about its role in Spanish history and culture.
Continue to the Costa del Sol, known for its sunny climate, beautiful beaches, and relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. This evening, experience the region like a local as your group visits a neighborhood market to pick up fresh breads, cheeses, cured meats, fruit, and other local specialties for a beach picnic dinner. Head to the shore to enjoy your meal as the sun begins to set over the Mediterranean Sea. After dinner, spend time playing beach volleyball, soccer, and other games while enjoying the laid-back atmosphere of Spain’s southern coast. It’s the perfect opportunity to relax, connect with fellow travelers, and enjoy one of the region’s most beautiful settings.
Day 8: Full-Day Excursion to Morocco
Today, embark on one of the most unique experiences of the program as you cross the Strait of Gibraltar and travel from Europe to Africa. In just a short journey, you’ll find yourself immersed in the sights, sounds, and traditions of Morocco. Explore bustling markets filled with colorful textiles, aromatic spices, handcrafted goods, and traditional artwork while learning about the country’s rich history and cultural heritage. Meet local guides who will introduce you to daily life and customs in North Africa before enjoying a memorable camel ride, a traditional mode of transportation that has been used across the region for centuries. Along the way, enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch (included), offering the opportunity to sample local flavors and experience another important aspect of Moroccan culture. After a full day of exploration and discovery, return to Spain later in the evening
Day 9: Mijas & Málaga
Along the way to Málaga, visit the picturesque whitewashed village of Mijas, one of Andalusia’s most charming mountain communities. Perched high above the Mediterranean Sea, Mijas is known for its winding cobblestone streets, flower-filled balconies, artisan shops, and spectacular coastal views. Take time to explore the village, browse local shops, and experience the slower pace of life that characterizes many traditional Andalusian towns.
After visiting Mijas, head to the beach. Relax on the golden sands, swim in the Mediterranean Sea, play beach games with your fellow travelers, or simply enjoy the sunshine and coastal scenery. This is a great opportunity to experience the laid-back lifestyle that has made Spain’s southern coast one of Europe’s most popular destinations.
Continue to Málaga, the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and one of the oldest cities in Europe. Explore the city’s lively historic center, admire its beautiful architecture, and stroll along the waterfront promenade. This evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a final night in Spain as you reflect on the friendships, experiences, and memories created throughout your journey!
