Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Departure, Arrival & Exploring Washington, DC
Your journey begins as you depart from Boston and travel to Washington, DC—a city filled with iconic landmarks, powerful stories, and the institutions that shape the nation.
Upon arrival, meet your Program Director and transfer into the city. Begin your experience at The Wharf, a lively waterfront destination along the Potomac River known for its restaurants, shops, public spaces, and scenic views. This vibrant area offers a great introduction to the energy and atmosphere of Washington, DC.
In the afternoon, visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture, one of the most impactful museums in the country. Through powerful exhibits, artifacts, music, and storytelling, students will explore the African American experience from slavery and the Civil Rights Movement to modern culture and achievement - gaining deeper insight into resilience, identity, and the ongoing pursuit of equality in America.
This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner with your group and time to settle in for the exciting days ahead.
Day 2: Capitol Hill, Holocaust Education & A Night at the Ballpark
Begin the day on Capitol Hill with a guided visit to the U.S. Capitol, where students will learn how laws are debated and passed at the center of American democracy.
Continue to the breathtaking Library of Congress, home to millions of books, historical documents, and one of the most beautiful interiors in Washington, DC. Along the way, stop outside the Supreme Court for photos and discussion about the role of the judicial branch and how laws are interpreted at the highest level.
Enjoy a pre-arranged bagged lunch on the National Mall while taking in views of the monuments and museums surrounding you.
In the afternoon, spend dedicated time at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Through moving exhibits and personal stories, students will engage thoughtfully with the history of the Holocaust while reflecting on themes of prejudice, human rights, responsibility, and the importance of standing up against injustice.
Tonight, experience another side of Washington, DC as you head to Nationals Park to enjoy a Washington Nationals game (schedule pending). With dinner at the ballpark and the excitement of a live professional sporting event, this fun and energetic evening provides a memorable way for the group to connect after a meaningful day of exploration and learning.
Day 3: Service, Science & Monuments by Night
Begin the day by giving back to the local community through a service experience with DC Central Kitchen (or similar organization). Students will learn about food insecurity, community support systems, and the role local organizations play in supporting residents throughout Washington, DC.
After lunch, head to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, one of the Smithsonian Institution’s most popular museums and a favorite for middle school students. From towering dinosaur skeletons and the Hope Diamond to exhibits on oceans, ecosystems, and human origins, students will enjoy an engaging and interactive learning experience.
Later in the afternoon, take part in a guided Lincoln Assassination Tour through downtown Washington, DC. As students retrace the events surrounding the night of April 14, 1865, they’ll visit key sites connected to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, including Ford’s Theatre and the Peterson House. Through storytelling and historical interpretation, students will gain a deeper understanding of Lincoln’s leadership during the Civil War, the events of his final hours, and the lasting impact his assassination had on the nation.
Following dinner, experience Washington, DC in a completely different light during an evening monuments and memorial tour. Visit iconic landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial beautifully illuminated at night—an unforgettable way to reflect on the history and stories explored throughout the trip.
Day 4: Arlington National Cemetery & Departure
Start your final day at Arlington National Cemetery, one of the nation’s most important military sites and a powerful place of remembrance. Students will learn about the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces while exploring the grounds and visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where they may witness the precision and honor of the changing of the guard ceremony.
Following a final group reflection, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Boston, bringing home new perspectives, meaningful experiences, and a deeper understanding of American history, leadership, service, and identity.
