Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 – San Juan | Arrival & Old San Juan Orientation
Fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where your Program Director will meet you upon arrival and welcome you to the island. After transferring to your hotel and getting settled, head out for a walking orientation through Old San Juan. As you stroll through colorful streets lined with colonial architecture, get your first feel for the city’s vibrant energy and rich history. This evening, gather as a group for a welcome dinner featuring traditional Puerto Rican cuisine—your first taste of the culture you’ll be exploring all week.
Day 2 – San Juan | Old San Juan & Loíza Cultural Immersion
Begin your day with a guided exploration of Old San Juan, diving deeper into Puerto Rico’s past as you visit iconic landmarks and historic sites. Walk along cobblestone streets, take in sweeping ocean views, and learn about the island’s colonial history at impressive forts like El Morro.
This afternoon, travel to Loíza, the cultural heart of Afro-Puerto Rican traditions. Visit local artisan workshops where you’ll see the creation of vibrant vejigante masks—symbols of the island’s festivals and heritage. Then, take part in an interactive bomba dance and drumming workshop led by local performers. Through rhythm, movement, and storytelling, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of this powerful cultural tradition before returning to San Juan for dinner and the evening.
Day 3 – El Yunque National Forest & Ziplining Adventure
Today, step into a completely different environment as you head to El Yunque National Forest, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest system. Hike through lush trails surrounded by towering trees, cascading greenery, and the sounds of wildlife. Along the way, learn about the rainforest ecosystem and why conservation efforts here are so important.
In the afternoon, shift from exploration to adventure with an exhilarating ziplining experience. Soar through the treetops, take in incredible views, and support your classmates as everyone takes on the challenge together. Return to San Juan for dinner and time to relax after an unforgettable day.
Day 4 – Utuado | Taíno Heritage & Indigenous History
Travel into Puerto Rico’s mountainous interior to Utuado, where you’ll connect with the island’s indigenous roots. Visit the Caguana Indigenous Ceremonial Park, one of the most significant Taíno archaeological sites in the Caribbean. Walk among ancient stone plazas and ceremonial ball courts while learning about Taíno spirituality, traditions, and daily life.
Continue to the nearby Jayuya Indigenous Museum, where artifacts and petroglyphs bring this history to life. Through these experiences, gain a deeper appreciation for the island’s original inhabitants and their lasting cultural impact. Return to San Juan for dinner and the evening.
Day 5 – Fajardo | Beach Day & Bioluminescent Bay
This morning, head to Puerto Rico’s beautiful eastern coast for time at the beach in Fajardo. Swim, relax, and enjoy the Caribbean setting with your group.
As night falls, prepare for one of the most memorable experiences of the trip—a kayaking excursion in a bioluminescent bay. As you paddle through the water, watch it glow and shimmer with every movement, creating the effect of thousands of tiny lights beneath the surface. It’s a surreal, unforgettable experience that feels almost otherworldly. Return to San Juan late in the evening.
Day 6 – San Juan | Exploration & Cooking Class
Enjoy a slower-paced morning as you explore Old San Juan at your own pace. Wander through local shops and markets, pick up handmade crafts or souvenirs, and practice your Spanish as you interact with local vendors.
Later, take part in a hands-on Puerto Rican cooking class led by a local chef. Learn how to prepare traditional dishes while hearing the stories behind the ingredients, flavors, and cultural influences that define Puerto Rican cuisine. Share the meal together as a group, celebrating your final full day on the island.
Day 7 – Departure | Return Home
Transfer to the airport for your return flight home, bringing home unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a deeper understanding of Puerto Rico’s culture and history.
