11-Day Teen Travel Summer Program: Switzerland, the French Riviera & Spain

Lucerne • Nice • Monaco • Antibes • Barcelona

Day 1: Departure from Boston

Your European adventure begins! Depart Boston and board your overnight flight to Switzerland. Get ready to experience breathtaking Alpine landscapes, charming lakeside towns, Mediterranean coastlines, world-famous cities, incredible cuisine, and unforgettable cultural experiences. Over the next eleven days, you’ll explore three countries while gaining a deeper understanding of European history, culture, and daily life.

Day 2: Arrival in Lucerne

Willkommen in der Schweiz! Upon arrival in Zurich, meet your Program Director and transfer to the beautiful lakeside city of Lucerne. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and situated on the shores of Lake Lucerne, this charming Swiss city is often considered one of Europe’s most picturesque destinations.

After settling into your hotel, enjoy a guided walk through Lucerne’s historic Old Town. Stroll along cobblestone streets lined with colorful frescoed buildings, visit the famous Chapel Bridge, and take in views of the city’s medieval towers and waterfront promenades. This evening, gather for a welcome dinner and begin getting to know your fellow travelers as your European adventure gets underway.

Day 3: Lake Lucerne Cruise & Mount Pilatus

Today combines some of Switzerland’s most spectacular scenery with outdoor adventure. Begin with a scenic cruise across the crystal-clear waters of Lake Lucerne, surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks and charming lakeside villages.

Next, ascend Mount Pilatus, one of Switzerland’s most iconic mountains. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss Alps, pristine lakes, and rolling countryside stretching in every direction. After taking in the scenery, head to a nearby adventure park where you’ll have the chance to go on a summer toboggan ride down the side on Mt. Pilatus! This unforgettable day combines natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and adventure in one of Europe’s most stunning landscapes.

Day 4: Lucerne Lido & Swiss Folklore Experience

Enjoy a relaxed morning at the Lucerne Lido, a popular lakeside recreation area where locals gather during the summer months. Swim in the refreshing waters of Lake Lucerne, play soccer and other beach games along the shore, or simply relax while enjoying the incredible alpine scenery.

Later, experience Swiss culture through a traditional folklore performance featuring regional music, yodeling, alphorns, and traditional costumes. Learn about the customs and traditions that have helped shape Swiss identity for generations while gaining a deeper appreciation for the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Day 5: Zurich to Nice

This morning, transfer to Zurich Airport for your flight to the French Riviera. Upon arrival in Nice, you’ll immediately notice the region’s Mediterranean charm, colorful architecture, palm-lined boulevards, and beautiful coastline.

Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Nice, exploring the city’s historic center, lively squares, local markets, and famous Promenade des Anglais. Wander through narrow streets filled with cafés, shops, and colorful buildings while learning about the city’s unique blend of French and Italian influences. This evening, enjoy dinner and take in the relaxed atmosphere that has attracted artists, writers, and travelers to the Riviera for centuries.

Day 6: Monaco & Beach Picnic Dinner

Today, travel to the glamorous Principality of Monaco, one of the world’s most famous destinations. Explore the historic Old Town, admire the Prince’s Palace, and see the legendary Monte Carlo district, known for its luxury yachts, stunning coastline, and world-famous casino.

After returning to Nice, experience the French Riviera like a local. Visit neighborhood markets to gather fresh breads, cheeses, fruit, pastries, and other regional specialties before heading to the beach for a picnic dinner along the Mediterranean Sea. Enjoy the sunset, play beach games with your fellow travelers, and experience the relaxed lifestyle that makes the Riviera so special.

Day 7: Antibes & the French Riviera

Today, visit the beautiful seaside town of Antibes, one of the French Riviera’s most charming and authentic coastal destinations. Nestled between Nice and Cannes, Antibes is known for its picturesque Old Town, colorful markets, historic ramparts, and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. Wander through narrow cobblestone streets lined with cafés, boutiques, and flower-filled squares while experiencing the relaxed atmosphere that has attracted artists, writers, and travelers for generations.

While in Antibes, visit the renowned Musée Picasso, housed within the historic Château Grimaldi where Pablo Picasso lived and worked in 1946. Explore a collection of his paintings, drawings, and ceramics while learning about the artist’s connection to the French Riviera and the inspiration he drew from the region’s landscapes and culture.

Day 8: Barcelona & Tapas Cooking Class

Fly to Barcelona, one of Europe’s most vibrant and exciting cities. Upon arrival, begin exploring the city’s remarkable architecture and unique Catalan culture. See Antoni Gaudí’s masterpiece, the Sagrada Família, one of the most extraordinary churches in the world, followed by a visit to the colorful and imaginative Park Güell. Learn how Gaudí’s innovative designs helped shape Barcelona’s identity and transformed modern architecture.

This evening, participate in a hands-on tapas cooking class. Learn how to prepare traditional Spanish dishes while discovering the importance of food, family, and community in Spanish culture. Enjoy the delicious meal you’ve helped create alongside your fellow travelers.

Day 9: Montserrat, Camino de Santiago Walk & Gothic Quarter Ghost Tour

Travel into the mountains to visit Montserrat, one of Spain’s most important cultural and spiritual landmarks. Perched high above the Catalan countryside, the monastery offers spectacular views and a fascinating glimpse into the region’s history and traditions. Explore the monastery grounds, take in the breathtaking scenery, and learn about Montserrat’s significance to Catalonia and Spain.

While at Montserrat, enjoy a hike through the breathtaking mountain landscape, following a section of the Camino de Santiago. Along the way, take in panoramic views of the Catalan countryside, discover Montserrat’s unique rock formations, and experience the peaceful beauty that makes this one of Spain’s most iconic destinations.

Return to Barcelona before discovering a different side of the city during a guided Ghost Tour of the Gothic Quarter. Wander through centuries-old alleyways, hidden squares, and historic streets as you hear fascinating stories, legends, mysteries, and local folklore from Barcelona’s past. It’s a fun and memorable way to experience one of the city’s most atmospheric neighborhoods after dark.

Day 10: FC Barcelona Experience, La Boqueria Market & Beach Picnic Lunch

This morning, enjoy a behind-the-scenes visit to the home of FC Barcelona, one of the world’s most legendary football clubs. Explore interactive exhibits, learn about the club’s rich history and traditions, and discover why football is such an important part of life in Spain and throughout Europe.

Afterward, head to the famous La Boqueria Market, one of Europe’s most vibrant food markets. Practice your Spanish while interacting with local vendors as you browse colorful displays of fresh produce, cheeses, cured meats, pastries, and regional specialties. Your group will gather ingredients for a Mediterranean-style beach picnic lunch.

Spend the afternoon relaxing along Barcelona’s beautiful Mediterranean coastline, enjoying your beach picnic together and soaking up the city’s vibrant atmosphere. It’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on your adventure, spend time with new friends, and enjoy one last afternoon in Spain before gathering for a special farewell dinner to celebrate an unforgettable journey.

Day 11: Return to Boston

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home to Boston. As your European adventure comes to an end, you’ll return with unforgettable memories of Alpine mountains, Mediterranean beaches, historic cities, incredible food, new friendships, and experiences that will stay with you long after the journey ends.
