Day by Day Itinerary

Empowering Girl Scouts: Peru Service & Immersion Adventure

Day 1: Arrival in Lima

Our journey begins as we fly to Lima, Peru, arriving in the vibrant capital city in the evening. Once settled, we’ll take in the lively energy of Lima, known for its rich history, colorful architecture, and diverse culture. Rest up – tomorrow, our adventure truly begins!

Day 2: Exploring Lima and Flight to Cusco

We’ll start our day with a guided tour of Lima’s historic landmarks, including the Plaza de Armas, the majestic Cathedral of Lima, and the Monastery of San Francisco, famous for its ancient catacombs. As we walk through the heart of Lima, we’ll learn how the city’s past shapes its modern identity. In the afternoon, we’ll catch a flight to Cusco, acclimating to the altitude as we prepare for our journey into the Sacred Valley.

Day 3: Discovering Chinchero and Empowering Girls through Culture

Our exploration of the Sacred Valley begins in Chinchero, an Andean village renowned for its vibrant weaving traditions. We’ll visit a women’s weaving cooperative, learning the skills that have been passed down through generations and discovering the empowering role these women play in preserving their cultural heritage. Later, we’ll visit Moray, where the Inca conducted agricultural experiments, connecting us with the deep environmental knowledge of the region.

Day 4: Immersive Community Service in Mullaka Misminay

Today, we’ll dive into a full day of hands-on service with the community in Mullaka Misminay. Working alongside local families, we’ll help with traditional farming tasks, including planting and harvesting crops. Through this immersive experience, we’ll not only gain insight into the daily lives of the Andean people but also support their sustainable way of life, fostering a spirit of global sisterhood and service.

Day 5: Ollantaytambo Exploration and Train to Aguas Calientes

We’ll start our day exploring Ollantaytambo, an ancient Incan town known for its stone terraces and fortress ruins. This site will give us a deeper understanding of the strategic and architectural brilliance of the Inca Empire. Afterward, we’ll board a scenic train to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, as the anticipation for tomorrow’s adventure builds.

Day 6: Machu Picchu: Empowering through Discovery

Today, we visit the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu! As we explore this ancient wonder, we’ll reflect on the incredible achievements of the Inca civilization and the lessons it holds for us as empowered Girl Scouts. With breathtaking views and rich history, this day will inspire a sense of wonder, resilience, and global connectedness. Afterward, we’ll take the train back to Cusco, reflecting on this transformative experience.

Day 7: Exploring Cusco and Sacsayhuaman

We’ll spend the day in Cusco, the heart of the Inca Empire. Our guided tour will include a visit to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, famous for its colossal stone walls, and an exploration of Cusco’s vibrant streets and markets. As we discover the blending of Inca and Spanish cultures, we’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the city’s history and its role in shaping the world today.

Day 8: Empowering Outdoor Adventure: Kayaking & Picnic

Today, we’ll head to the tranquil waters surrounding Cusco for a day of kayaking! This outdoor adventure will encourage teamwork and connection with nature, empowering us to push our limits while taking in the stunning Andean scenery. After our adventure, we’ll enjoy a relaxing picnic, reflecting on the journey and the impact we’ve made through our service and learning.

Day 9: Departure from Cusco

As our journey in Peru comes to an end, we’ll catch a flight from Cusco to Lima and then board our flight home. We leave with new skills, unforgettable memories, and a deeper connection to both ourselves and the communities we’ve served.

Day 10: Arrival Home

We’ll arrive back in the USA, bringing home the experiences, friendships, and lessons that have empowered us throughout our Girl Scout adventure in Peru.
