Itinerary
Morning | Travel & Arrival
Depart early this morning by bus from Darien to Philadelphia. Upon arrival, meet your GCP Program Director, who will spend the day leading the group through the city—sharing local insight, bringing history to life, and helping connect each experience to the bigger picture as you explore together.
Morning | Iconic Philadelphia
Stretch your legs and run up the famous “Rocky Steps,” then take in panoramic views of the Philadelphia skyline from the top—an energizing and memorable welcome to the city.
Late Morning | Stories Behind the Walls
Continue to Eastern State Penitentiary, once the most famous prison in the world. Walk through its striking cellblocks and learn how its innovative—and controversial—design influenced prison systems around the globe, while sparking thoughtful conversations about justice and reform.
Midday | Lunch at Reading Terminal Market
Enjoy lunch at Reading Terminal Market, a Philadelphia landmark. Students can choose from a wide variety of local favorites and global cuisine—or sample a classic Philly cheesesteak—making this a relaxed and social midpoint to the day.
Afternoon | Foundations of American Democracy
Visit the National Constitution Center, where the story of the U.S. Constitution comes alive through interactive exhibits, artifacts, film, and multimedia displays. The visit includes a screening of Freedom Rising, a powerful 17-minute theatrical production tracing the Constitution from its origins to the present day.

Spend time exploring Independence Mall, often called “America’s Most Historic Square Mile.” Visit the Liberty Bell Center to see the iconic Liberty Bell and reflect on its role as an enduring symbol of freedom and independence.
