Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in San José

Begin your journey by boarding a flight to San José, Costa Rica’s bustling capital. Upon arrival, meet your local Travel Director and transfer to your hotel. After settling in, enjoy an orientation walk through San José’s historic areas, where you’ll uncover the city’s colonial roots and Spanish influences. In the evening, gather with fellow travelers for a welcome dinner to kick off the adventure.

Day 2: Discovering La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano

Depart San José in the morning for La Fortuna, the gateway to Costa Rica’s famous Arenal Volcano. Begin with an educational tour of Arenal Volcano National Park, where you’ll learn about volcanic activity, geology, and the surrounding rainforest ecosystem. Later, visit the spectacular La Fortuna Waterfall, cascading 250 feet into a pristine pool below. End the day by relaxing in natural hot springs, soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters heated by geothermal activity beneath the volcano.

Day 3: Wildlife Exploration at Caño Negro

Travel north toward the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, passing through lush plantations of sugar cane, teak, pineapple, and orange trees. At Caño Negro, embark on a boat tour of the Rio Frio, observing the region’s rich biodiversity. Here, spot migratory birds like roseate spoonbills and cormorants, and look out for local wildlife, including caimans, howler monkeys, green iguanas, and the unique basilisk lizard. Your guide will provide fascinating insights into the ecosystem and conservation efforts in the area.

Day 4: Journey Back to San José via Tarcoles

Depart La Fortuna in the morning and head back toward San José, stopping at the famous Crocodile Bridge over the Tarcoles River. Observe the impressive crocodiles in their natural habitat and learn about their behavior and role in the ecosystem. Tonight, join your farewell dinner, reflecting on the highlights of the week and sharing experiences with your group.
