Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from New York City
Your journey begins as you depart from New York City on an overnight flight to Lisbon, Portugal. Get ready for an unforgettable experience exploring vibrant cities, rich history, and stunning coastal landscapes.
Day 2: Arrival in Lisbon & Introduction to Portuguese Culture
Arrive in Lisbon and meet your Program Director before transferring into the city center. Kick off your adventure with an orientation walk through Lisbon’s historic streets, taking in its colorful architecture, tiled facades, and lively atmosphere. After settling in, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring traditional Portuguese cuisine and an introduction to the experiences ahead.
Day 3: Lisbon – History, Culture & Local Life
Begin the day exploring Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood, where narrow streets, local cafés, and scenic viewpoints offer a glimpse into the city’s past and daily life. Continue to Belém to visit two of Portugal’s most iconic landmarks—Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery—both UNESCO World Heritage Sites tied to the Age of Exploration. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to explore Lisbon —shop for local goods, pick up souvenirs, grab a pastel de nata at a neighborhood café, or simply soak in the energy of the city. Wrap up the day with a hands-on Azulejo tile-painting workshop, where you’ll create your own piece inspired by Portugal’s iconic artistic tradition.
Day 4: Sintra & the Atlantic Coast
Travel to the fairytale town of Sintra, a UNESCO-listed village known for its lush hills, colorful palaces, and charming whitewashed buildings tucked into the mountainside. Visit the stunning Pena Palace, perched high above the town, and take in sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Afterward, enjoy free time in Sintra’s village center to explore at your own pace—browse local shops, try traditional pastries, and wander through its picturesque streets filled with tiled homes and hidden corners. Continue to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, where dramatic cliffs drop into the Atlantic Ocean. Return to Lisbon in the evening for dinner and time to reflect on the day.
Day 5: Lisbon to Porto – Riverside Charm & Culinary Experience
Travel north to Porto, one of Portugal’s most picturesque cities. Upon arrival, explore the Ribeira district along the Douro River, known for its colorful buildings and lively atmosphere. Walk across the Dom Luís I Bridge for panoramic views of the city. Visit Livraria Lello, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world and an inspiration for literary lovers. In the evening, take part in a hands-on Portuguese cooking class, where you’ll learn to prepare traditional dishes using fresh, local ingredients. Enjoy the meal you’ve created together—an interactive and memorable way to experience Porto’s food culture.
Day 6: Porto & the Douro River
Begin the day with a visit to the Palácio da Bolsa, a stunning 19th-century landmark that reflects Porto’s history as a center of trade and commerce. Enjoy free time to explore the city—wander through local markets, relax along the riverfront, or discover hidden corners of Porto’s historic streets. In the late afternoon, experience the city from the water with a Douro River cruise, sailing beneath Porto’s iconic bridges and taking in the skyline from a new perspective. Day 7: Porto to the Algarve – Coastal Landscapes
Travel south to the Algarve, Portugal’s famous coastal region known for its dramatic cliffs and golden beaches. Stop in Lagos to learn about its maritime history before continuing to Praia da Marinha, widely considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. End the day at Ponta da Piedade, where towering rock formations and sea caves create one of Portugal’s most iconic coastal views.
Day 8: Algarve – Coastal Boat Tour & Local Culture
Experience the Algarve from the water with a scenic boat tour along the coastline. Cruise past dramatic cliffs, hidden beaches, and sea caves—many only accessible by boat—while learning about the region’s geology and marine environment. In the afternoon, visit the historic town of Silves, where you’ll explore its well-preserved Moorish castle and learn about Portugal’s diverse cultural history. Enjoy time to explore local markets, browse artisan shops, or relax in one of the Algarve’s charming coastal villages. In the evening, gather for a traditional Portuguese dinner, celebrating the flavors and culture of the region.
Day 9: Return to Lisbon & Farewell
Return to Lisbon, taking in Portugal’s diverse landscapes along the way. Enjoy free time for last-minute shopping, exploring neighborhoods, or revisiting favorite spots. Gather for a farewell dinner to reflect on the journey, the experiences shared, and the connections made throughout the trip.
Day 10: Departure for New York City
Transfer to Lisbon Airport for your return flight to New York City, bringing home unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for Portugal’s history, culture, and natural beauty.
